The Story of
DALTON STUDIO
Dalton Studio was founded on the belief that preservation and sound planning can transform places and bring people together. Over time, this vision has grown into a practice guided by three core values:

This philosophy shapes both sides of our work. The historic preservation side of Dalton Studio focuses on protecting and celebrating historic places through surveys, planning strategies, and tools that help communities safeguard their heritage. The community planning side is grounded in the principles of traditional town planning and the Congress for the New Urbanism, helping communities grow in ways that are walkable, connected, and sustainable.
As a studio, Dalton Studio is built on collaboration. Rarely is the work done alone — project teams bring together allied consultants and trades experts who are leaders in their fields, ensuring every project benefits from a wide range of expertise and perspective.

Bettye D. Smith Cultural Arts Center, originally designed as the Sanford Public Library by architect Elton J. Moughton — Dalton Studio manages the Moughton archives and is completing a book on his architectural legacy in Sanford.
